Original, unedited clues:
-------------------------
Location: Tuckahoe State Park

Difficulty: Relatively easy, 1.5 mile round trip.

Directions: Travel east on Route 50 across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, staying on Route 50 East where 50 and 301 split. Turn left onto Route 404 and travel approximately 8 miles. Turn left at a stoplight onto Route 480, then take the first left onto Eveland Road. At the T intersection, turn right onto Crouse Mill Road, followed by an immediate left onto Cherry Lane. Take a left at the Tuckahoe State Park Campground and Picnic Area sign. At the stop sign, turn left into the Picnic Area, and follow the loop around to the back side, parking by the Lake Trail sign (blue blaze).

Notes: Hunting is allowed at Tuckahoe State Park, but not in the area in which this trail is located. Beware of thorns near the box and poison ivy throughout the park.

Clues: Enjoy a walk on the Lake Trail over footbridges and hills alongside a flooded woodland. You will eventually reach a loblolly pine forest, which includes Frog Dad's favorite part of the trail ... the Avenue of Trees (you'll know it when you see it, I swear). Look on your right for Mama Frog's favorite part of the trail ... a disintigrating green car (hey, that's not my favorite part!) When you can clearly see this artifact of automotive history, make a U-turn, and you should be standing next to a blue blaze (if not, try backing up a few steps). Head back through the infamous Avenue of Trees until you reach the next blue blaze. Stop! Take out your trusty compass (at least you hope it's trusty), find a bearing of 345, and take 9-10 steps until you are standing between two pine trees. Behind the tree on your right, under bark and sticks, a poor crane has found itself Lost Among the Pines (either that, or it's just hiding from the hunters). If you continue past the car, the trail will end at Little Frog's favorite part ... no, not the lake, it's the recycled tire playground! Something for everyone!

Sept 2011/2014/2019 notes/updates:
-----------------------------

Ok, the original clues will get you to the starting point and are a useful reference but time-stops-for-no-letterbox and things have significantly changed. New clues:

(0) From the parking lot, follow the paved trail down towards the lake and the bathroom complex.
(1) Just before the bathroom buildings, take a right (northerly) onto the prominent Lake Trail, blazed Blue. This trail is straight as an arrow and leads you through a wondrous loblolly pine forest.
(2) Find/count the blazes:
#1- tree on left
#2- tree on right
#3- tree in center (my notes are hard to read, might be on left, oops)
#4- tree on right (disintegrating green car is on the left on the lakeside hill)
#5- tree on right,
(3) stop at the next intersection. Looking left there is a small side trail that leads to down to the swampy river overlook.
(4) turn around, take 15 steps the way you came. stop.
(5) 10-steps into the brush on the right is a large tree with a large brick at the bottom covering/protecting this historic letterbox.

This historic box with the original stamp awaits the next intrepid visitor.

Historical clues, wont help, just for reference/historical purposes:

-------------------------
April 2008 notes/updates:

(0) Find and visit the "disintegrating green car"
(1) Return to trail, find tree bisecting the trail that has a single dark-blue blaze (tree is 12" in diameter).
(2) Head north on trail 30 paces to tree that used to have a blue-blaze at about 10' up (blaze has been chiseled out). You can see this tree from the dark-blue blaze tree in step (1).
(3) Original logbook and stamp await in a new box for the intrepid 'boxer.
(4) Recommend taking box to the lakes edge to stamp-in. The view is outstanding - we spotted several herons.
(5) Please rehide exactly as found. This box has survived for 6+ years in this spot (making it one of the oldest surviving MD boxes)

-------------------------
May 2009 notes/updates:
(a) Box is alive and well; has a hitchhiker awaiting next finder!
(b) Box cammo'd and hidden in a nitch at ground level on East side at the base of a tree 7 steps east of the main trail.
(c) Box is covered with pine needles and a small cairn of Sticks.
