We planted this letterbox along a favorite trail that we hike each summer during our annual camping trip to Bodega Bay. Enjoy!

From the town of Bodega Bay, turn west onto Eastshore Drive Road. Drive about .30 mile on Eastshore to a stop sign, then turn right onto Bay Flat Road. Drive about 3.4 miles, initially along the harbor (where the road seamlessly turns into Westshore Road), then after a sharp hairpin turn, uphill to an unsigned fork. Bear right and continue .20 mile to the parking lot for the Bodega Head Trail.

The Bodega Head Trail is a 1.8 mile loop through the Bodega headlands. This is an easy hike, suitable for all, though you must be sure to take care in areas where the trail runs along the edge of the steep cliffs. As you travel the loop, be sure to enjoy the bountiful wildflowers, sea life, and beautiful views of the coastline.

The letterbox is planted approximately 2/3 of the way along the loop. You will know its location by an obvious landmark -- an orange and white checkered navigational beacon -- at the southeast corner of Bodega Head. You can't miss this beacon, as it is prominently planted in a large concrete square adjacent to the trail. Once you are at the beacon, proceed to the northeast corner of the concrete square (the corner pointing towards the Doran Beach Regional Park Campground). Tucked under this corner of concrete you will find your prize.
