Tiny Porter, MN, population just under 200, has the most successful March of Dimes fundraiser in Minnesota. It's an auction, held every January. It's been an annual event for over 70 years.
To find the March of Dimes letterbox, travel through town on Hwy 68. Turn south between the Porter bell and the US flag. Follow the Brook road until the arrow tells you to head west. Now you are on the county road which has the same number as the number of minutes of fame we're each supposed to get in our lifetime.
Pass the church, and the place where the Traildusters practice. Next there will be a row of trees on the left side of the road. Make a U-turn when you come to the intersection, drive back and park along the road near the first tree you come to, the western-most tree in the row. It is a grand old cottonwood. There is a rock pile at the base of this tree. If you stand west of the rocks, facing the tree, you will see a rather flat, round black rock near the right (south) end of the pile of rocks. It is the darkest rock in the group. The letterbox is under this rock.
