Vineyard Youth Tennis is a wonderful program, that has provided tennis lessons to year-round and summer residents of the Vineyard for many years. To say thank you to the coaches and staff who have taught my son for the past several summers, we have planted this letterbox within sight of their beautiful clubhouse and fine courts. Please remember that the box is not at VYT, but very nearby.
Go to the entrance to the walking trail located off the Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road, just west of Barnes Road. It is on the south side of the road, near a VTA bus stop and bike path information sign, and has a small area to park a car or bike. At the start of this trail are 2 brown signs with white lettering, stating “Public Walking Path” and “Follow Trail Markers”.
Follow the trail past 3 blue trail markers, until you reach a T intersection. At this location is a sign pointing the way to Weahtaqua Springs. Stop at that sign, turn around, and go back the way you came, walking 6 steps.
Stop and look to your right- follow a faint path on the right, through a small clearing, and continue on the better defined path, toward the tennis complex. If you see several old, green tennis balls on the path, you’re in the right place! After a short distance on this path, look to your left for a young, lone White Pine tree, about 8 steps in from the path. (Most of the trees in this area are oaks.)
Your prize is under leaf mulch and sticks.
As always, watch out for poison ivy and tics.
Bring green ink for this stamp
