Donated by the Sherburne Family in 1999, the Sherburne Property is an 80 acre parcel which consists of a combination of dry uplands, marshy areas, a beaver pond, and a field maintained to support birds and wildlife.

What to look for on your hike: Watch for deer and coyote tracks. There are fisher, fox, mink and raccoons on the property. From the beaver dam you may see otter, turtles, muskrat and of course, beaver.

Around the beaver pond you may see Great Blue Herons, ducks, and geese. Near the Beech trees you may see Red Tail Hawks and Owls.

You may also see Lady Slippers (please don't pick them, they are endangered) and many other plant life.

To get to Shurburne Property: The property is located at 46 Coburn Rd., Tyngsboro. Heading east over the Tyngsboro Bridge, take your second right onto Sherburne Ave. Turn left onto Coburn Road after passing by the Tyngsboro Country Club golf course. The entrance in the second driveway on the left after you pass the intersection with Laundale Ave. The Parking is to the rear of the dwelling.

This a series of three letterboxes, the log book is in the last box.

Once you park head to toward the information board. There are maps there, you don't need one, but it might be a good idea to grab one. Start toward the trail to the east. When you see the white boulders go left following the mowed path of grass. You will continue past the trail #1 marker, continuing straight on the grass. You will be back to this entrance though.

Continue to the end of the path, thanks to Troop 46, Eagle Scout Project, Douglas Clougher in 2003, you'll be able to sit on a bench and enjoy the view. Now you should see a big flat rock a few feet ahead, which you should stand on to over look the beaver pond, do you see the beaver damns? Now look under the rock you are standing on, on the side facing the bench. Under the rock is the first letter box, you'll have to move some rocks to get to the box. Please be careful when re-hiding, as it's easily visible if you are not careful when placing the rocks back to cover it.

Now you should head back down the same grass path you came down, you should take the left onto trail #1, follow the trail markers past 2 markers until you come to a brook, cross over the bridge and take a left. Again, thanks to Troop 46, Eagle Scout Project, Douglas Clougher in 2003, you can sit and admire the brook. Once you are done, with your back to the brook, find the path to the right of the bench. Once you have the bench to your left and the tree that beaver chopped down on your right, take 13 steps and you will see an old fallen down tree on your right. At the base of this fallen tree, move some twigs and you will find the second letter box. Again, please re-hide carefully.

Keep heading down this path to get to the last letter box. Follow the markers to the end and then take a left. You will come to a small clearing, take the left where you see a "17" marker. Walk down this path a short ways, you may cross under a tree that spans across the path, look for a sign on a tree on the right that reads "Town of Tyngsboro Conservation Land No motorized Trespassing." Behind the tree with the sign, past the next V shaped tree, is one more tree, at the base of this tree under some twigs is the final box.

Continue up the hill and follow the signs to the bridge to get back to where you started, enjoy the views!

We highly recommend you bring bug spray and your own ink-pad.

My husband made these stamps, he's the artistic one in tyngfam. We hope you get to see some great wildlife and enjoy your search.
