Also some clue changes.

Let's take a stroll around the 152-acre estate. The house was built in 1901 for the Pope family by their daughter, Theodate. To familiarize you with the site, there is historical information in some log books.

Stone Walls
From the mansion, walk down the west side of the main driveway toward Mountain Road using the blue stone walkway. Stop at the largest maple between the 2 white gates and notice the cedar on the other side of the wall. Standing across from the cedar, take 11 steps east. Find in the wall a roundish, rust-colored stone with no lichen. Be careful not to harm the wall. Please be sure to re-conceal completely.

Sunken Garden (replaced 9/2/2015)
After admiring the beautiful garden walk through the length of the Summer House, continuing past the sundial and toward the gate beyond the yew hedges. Walk behind the hedge on the left until you come to the stone path heading toward the wall with an arch. Standing on the first stone of the path take a reading of 80 degrees to another exit opening. Go there. Standing on the 2nd step look between 2 rocks on the left with a white spot on each. Behind a smaller pointy rock at knee level is your prize. Replace carefully being sure it is not visible.

Mastodon
Return to the parking area and walk down the farm road to the Pump House just before the charming wooden bridge. Take the stone path beside the Pump House to the back of the building. Look under the rock.

Golf
Across from the Pump House and to the left is a wide mowed area leading along the pond to the right. Continue following the tree line all the way to the corner of the field. Turn left and follow tree line to the opening on the right. Enter the opening and notice a "naked" log to the right. Examine where that log meets the standing tree on the left. I don't think Theodate's dad golfed way over here but he had a 6-hole golf course beginning right outside his office door. Theodate is quoted as saying "Father goes out on these golf links every day alone and drives a few balls into the pond."

Orchards
Find the Woodland Trail on the left from the farm road and walk to a large maple with a double oak to the left when you face the maple. The apples and peaches were grown in the area behind these trees. But we must continue on the trail to find a hiding spot. Soon enter a "tunnel" of small trees. Just before you exit the tunnel, notice two trees with prominent trunks, one on either side of the trail. Look under the rock behind the tree on the right.

Faith
Return to the farm road and continue walking to the red barns. Turn right beyond the large barn and look below the 5th window. Behind you will be the garage shed and the white Shepherds’ Cottage. Box is behind the slate.

TPR
Return to the Welcome entrance and visit the gift shop. Many interesting items are displayed here. When “traffic” is slow, ask the gift shop attendant for the letterbox. You may take it to the AV area where there are chairs to sit on while you stamp in.

I hope you have enjoyed this tour as much as I did when researching and placing the boxes. Check out their website for additional information and schedule of programs and events. Many thanks to Cindy and Diane for their help.
