This box is located in the Doris T. Shaw Wildlife Sanctuary, next to the "Wyndham Land Trust." This is private property that is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. Please respct the rules. Dogs and and bicycles are fine.
Driving Directions: Rte 395, exit 100, EAST on Wilsonville Road, LEFT at the the stop sign onto Thompson Rd, RIGHT on Sand Dam Rd., LEFT on Indian Inn Rd. The entrance to the trail will be immediately on your RIGHT after turning onto Indian Inn Rd. It is marked by 4 large boulders. Park your car on the side of the road.
CLUES:
Pass the large boulders and enter the trail. Cross over a fallen tree. Take a peek at the small stream when you cross over the cement bridge. Continue up the trail. At the "Y" intersection, keep LEFT. You are entering a very cool pine grove.
Once the pines begin to fade, you will enter a type of clearing. You will be able to see the pond on your LEFT. There will be several trunks of deadwood on both sides of the trail. There is one downed tree that crosses over the trail. About 15 steps BEFORE you get to this tree in your path, look to your LEFT, towards the pond. Do you see a 3 sister tree with her roots exposed? It looks like these sisters are growing up out of a grssy knoll.
There is a pice of deadwood wedged between two fo the sisters. There is no need to remove this wood... only lift the lower end, like a see-saw. Beneath you will find smaller pieces of deadwood.... and beneath that you will find.... tucked in the roots.... AMANDA's BIRTHDAY PARTY!
And yes, Amanda's Birthday Party did all hide this box with us! Please hide well when you are done.
This is the end of our trail... but please continue down further to see the ponds. We also found many different varieties of mushrooms. Every few feet I was bending down to take another photograph! Gotta love those mushrooms!
