TREASURE OF THE BOG:

To start on your letterboxing adventure, park your vehicle at the following address:

6th Avenue Professional Center
1600 Sixth Avenue
York, Pa 17403

Try to park as near as possible to the railroad tracks that run behind the Professional Center. Walk up the slight hill or on the little path beside the parking lot to get onto the railroad tracks. Now head East down the tracks, passing behind the Professional Center. Can you smell the cookies from Stauffer’s Cookie Outlet?

You will pass behind this deliciously aromatic building on the tracks. When you come to a fork in the tracks, bear right and continue on the tracks. If you happen to run into train cars with construction materials, we suggest walking around on the left. You will come to an intersection of 4 paths – continue walking straight, staying on the tracks. As you pass over a small creek, be wary of the troll underneath your path!

If its spring or summer, look for the raspberries on your right of this last section of railroad tracks and stop to pick a few. When you emerge from the slightly overgrown tracks, turn left toward what looks like a sewage access hatch. At the hatch, take the South trail (to the right).

You will pass a few small trails and a concrete barrier on your left with graffiti on it, but continue straight. Eventually on this path you will be able to see where the railroad tracks re-emerge. There will be one clearly visible rail on the crushed rock trail, and to the right of this, a few paces back is the secluded entrance to a smaller footpath – take it.

Walking down the path you will see the remnants of a Dye run-off basin, that’s the bog-like area on your left. Pass over the tracks again on this path. You will soon see a large concrete structure to your left. At the base of this concrete wall will be what you seek. It is covered with leaves and a small piece of wood. Please replace the wood and debris when you leave and keep well concealed. Congratulations!
