****This Box has been returned and it is now active as of August 9th 2011!****

This is a relatively easy hike, great for children!

This Box is our 2nd box we have planted. It is inspired by our interest and enjoyment of studying the mushrooms in the forest. On the day we planted our "mushroom" I found serval different types of mushrooms along side the path. If it is the right time of year, you may enjoy counting how many mushrooms you spot while finding ours.

It is located in Massasoit State Park on Middleboro Ave in East Taunton. Park your vehicle at the day time use parking lot. Walk past the ranger station on the left. Just before entering the main road there is a rock table on the left of the main road into the park. Take the path that is next to the table. There is a small woden bridge. Cross the bridge and continue on the path. The path will continue past the bogs which will be on your left side. This path splits with a smaller path on the left (which leads back to the bogs) and a larger, wider path on the right. It is marked with a blue blaze trail marker on a tree at the split.. Take the path to the right, the larger path. The path winds a little and heads up hill with a large boulder in the center of the path. Soon you will notice that you are walking along the road which is now on your right. There is a blue trail blaze on a tree to the right. It just happens to have "letter box yay" written on it, lucky for us. Soon you will see a small trail off to the right keep to the left where the path crosses an old stone wall. Continue on and you will see a wooden foot bridge to the left where the path splits. Take the foot bridge. Just after you cross the bridge take the left path at the "T" in the path. After a bit of a walking you will see a tall felled pine running along the trail shortly after that you will see a sign that says “BRIDGE OPEN” on a tall and thick pine on the right of the path. Take the first path on the left at this signed tree. Here the path narrows a bit. Keep walking until the path splits and there is a tree that blocks the path to the left and the left path is narrow. Take the path to the right which is wider and slopes downward. walk an adult's size 33 paces down this path, on your left you will see a low hollow in the ground. STOP, Face the hollow. Now look just to the left of the opposite side of the hollow and you will see three pines. At the base of the nearest pine you will find the mushroom in its roots.
The day we planted this, there were several mushrooms around this area. Depending on the time of year, you may see them too.
