LOCATION: Colonel Raymond F. Gates Cemetery is located on West Street in Rocky Hill. It is right next door to the Dinosaur State Park.

INFORMATION: There was a small hold-up getting this box going due to the sign posted "State Property No trespassing." I have talked to the folks at the Veteran's Administration regarding this sign. Is is indeed OK for civilians to visit this cemetery as long as behaviour is respectful and your visit is limited to the hours between 9:00am and 4:00 pm.

I was drawn to this little spoken about cemetery as it is accross the street from the Veteran's Home & Hospital. In my pre-kids career,I had an account with the VA, working with the Supported Education Services Porgram. Vets are special people. I really enjoyed working with this interesting and oh so diverse population. Some of our Vets are left alone in this world. The VA is their only family. I have driven by that cemetery hundreds (if not thousands) of times. I often wondered who was burried there. Now I know....

Due to limited space at Raymond Gates Cemetery, it is reserved for the veterans who die while residing at the Home accross the street. Almost all of the stones are "flat stones" and upon a glance, it is hard to tell it is even a cemetery. [The general VA cemetery is locatd on Bow Lane in Middletown. This is a larger cemetery with 16,000 plots with almost 6,000 currently occupied- having upright markers (like Arlington.) Hmm.... I'm sure you know where I am going with this additional info.....]

So in honour for all the Vets I had the privilege to work with. And in honour of all those who have and continue to serve our country and preserve all of my freedoms... Resting Places III is for you.

CLUES: Pulling into the Cemetery, passing through a large iron gate, take your 2nd LEFT. Now, count the trees on your RIGHT, one... two... three...four ...five. OK, there is a seemingly tie for #5. But the tree you desire is the group of three sisters. These sisters are guarding RP#III.

Thank you for honouring the Veterans who have served us.
