Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park
6200 Flying LC Lane
Take Palomar Airport Road east, right on Melrose, right on Carrillo Way.
Open Tuesday - Saturday 9am-5pm Sunday 11am-5pm

Discover the history and tranquil beauty of this former working ranchero, once owned by actor Leo Carrillo. Secluded in the heart of a magnificently landscaped 27-acre canyon, this historic park contains and protects romantic hand-crafted adobe buildings, antique windmills, a reflecting pool and many other beautiful historic structures where visitors can explore and experience Early California history. Nature-lovers delight in gorgeous agave, bougainvillea, Birds of Paradise, plentiful trees, ONE SNOWDROP and the company of dozens of brilliant peacocks who call the ranch home.

Leo Carrillo Ranch is a designated Historic National Landmark that was opened to the public in August 2003.

This stamp was originally part of a postal ring(the logbook contains the names of other participants)and was called "snowdrop". The first official find was 9-12-08.

I have been told the logbook is full. Please use all the pages, front and back. Entries do not have to be chronological.

Clue: Park in the lower parking area if possible. Take the walkway down to the caretaker's house. Walk along the roadway passing the caretaker's house on your left. Pass the old adobe wall that is crumbling away. When you come to the fork, take it (right). There is a sign on the left side that reads "service vehicles only". Go right when you reach the storm drain with the LC insignia on it. There will be a broken fence in front of you on both sides of the road. Turn left when you reach it and look at the rows of trees. Count the to the 3rd tree closest to the fence (the first 2 are small). The 3rd tree has a flat rotten log to the left of its trunk. There is another log pushed up under this log. Remove the smaller log from underneath and behind it will be the box you seek.
Please DON'T lift the log to get to the box. Just pull the small log out and reach in to pull the box out. When done stamping, return the box exactly how it was found with the smaller log guarding the opening and some pine needles disguising the hole. A well concealed box is a box that will have a lot of visitors.
You can return the way you came or loop around and see the old house, pool, barn and other interesting buildings on the property (like in the photo).
Please be very stealthy! Many people visit this wonderful place. If there are people around, wait until they've gone. Lots of kids use the park to meet their parents for pick up after school lets out. I would not recommend going from 2:30 to 3:30 as the parking lot is full of cars at that time.
I hope you like the ranch. I think it is one of southern California's gems.
