FROM SPRINGFIELD - Take 91 North. Take the RT-9 exit – exit number 19 toward NORTHAMPTON/AMHERST. Turn right at the end of the ramp, go over the Coolidge Bridge and continue on Route 9. Go through the lights in the center of Amherst. At the next set of lights turn left, onto South East Street. At the next light turn right onto Pelham Road. Pelham Road becomes Amherst Road in Pelham. Follow Amherst Road until you reach a flashing yellow light, this is the Daniel Shays Highway (Route 202). Turn right onto the Daniel Shays Highway. Look for Packardville Road on your right and sign that says Gate 8 for the Quabbin – turn left here.

From Greenfield, MA: - Stay straight on I-91 South. Take the US-5/Rt 10 exit – exit number 24 toward Whately/Deerfield. Turn left onto MA-10/US-5. Turn RIGHT onto Sunderland Rd/MA-116. Continue to follow MA-116 until you get to Route 9 in Hadley. STAPLES and APPLEBEES will be in front of you, turn LEFT on Route 9. From Orange: Follow DANIEL SHAYS HWY/US-202 towards Belchertown. Once in Pelham, look for Packardville Road on your right and sign that says Gate 8 for the Quabbin – turn left here.

This is a really nice place to walk. Please note that there are no dogs allowed and while you can drive on this road down to the reservoir the gate closes at dusk and is closed during the winter months. The total round trip is 4.8 miles.

Enter Gate 8 of the Quabbin – once you go through “the gate” on your left you will see a small exposed ledge of rocks and a small clearing to it’s right. Look for a big pine in this clearing with a “Safety Zone” sign tacked to it. Look behind this tree for Chandler. Once you find Chandler we’ll need to find Joey.

Joey can be located at the first speed limit sign which you will see on your right. Just beyond the sign, you’ll need to walk up the small bank and look behind a large rock. (3/10 mile from main gate)

Monica has situated herself at the base of a clump of birch trees behind an old locked up ranger station with a porch, which you will see on your left as you continue down the road. (1/2 mile from main gate)

Phoebe can be found at the cross roads with overhead powerlines. There will be a gate to your left and a gate to your right (labeled PL – 5) Go to the gate on your right and go past it – you will see a brook on your right with an big old maple tree. You should see an old stone wall near this tree – look in the wall behind the tree! (9/10 mile from main gate)

Great job so far – hope you’re enjoying this gate!

Off to find – Rachel & Ross!

Rachel will be on the left near another gated road (labeled PL – 1). There is a rock to the left of the post – here you should find Rachel’s letterbox. What no Ross! They “must be on a break!” (1.7 miles from main gate)

Ross can be found further down the road on the right, just as the Quabbin waters come into view. You’ll see a gate to your right (labeled BL – 8). Go through the gate look behind a large pine tree on your left. (2.3 miles from main gate)
