I thought it would be fun to place a letterbox by throwing it into the Pacific Ocean and seeing where it ended up, then hiding it nearby. Since I did not get a chance to go out in a boat, this exercise will be done theoretically and solved mathematically, with a little help from Pythagoras.

Directions:
I left Netarts on a boat traveling southwest, and after 10 miles I released the letterbottle. The ocean current made it travel due east for 8 miles, where it landed on a beach just south of one of the three Capes. I was able to calculate the distance from Netarts (and so can you), and thereby determine which Cape State Park the letterbottle is in. There are several other boxes in this park.

Clues:
Park at the free trail head parking lot, not the Day Use area. Walk on the Cape Trail for 100 steps to the South trail jct. leading to the beach. Turn left on that trail and go 50 steps to a tree in the middle of the trail. Continue 30 steps to the third live tree on the left side of the trail. The minibox is up behind its trunk on the left side under debris. Please replace as described and be discreet.
