This was our first plant and we had lots of fun. Bring some bread along and you can feed the ducks, geese and swans in the back ponds. While we were planting, we saw wild turkeys and a redtailed hawk. At one point a doe walked by us in the woods approx. 15 feet away ~ it was amazing!
While you are hunting for the letterboxes, see if you can find the hawks nest way up high in a pine tree!
Take exit 6 off of Rte 3 - onto Samoset Street heading towards Plymouth Center/Downtown Plymouth. Continue for approx 1/4 mile. Turn LEFT onto Standish Avenue. Continue for 1.4 miles through N. Plymouth passing Hedge Elementary School. Take a LEFT onto Bourne Street. Hedge Pond will be on your left.
Go to the end of the street and bear RIGHT onto a dirt road - keeping to your right. Please drive SLOWLY as there are huge potholes in the road. Keep on the dirt road around the pond (which should be on your left) - go to the very end of the road and you will be between two ponds. Park your car on the right.
Walk across the cement "bridge" that spans the two ponds. (this is a great place to feed the ducks!) Walk across the chain that is hanging on the "bridge" and walk up the hill paved with stones into the forest.
As you begin your journey, you will have ponds on both sides of the trail. Soon after you get to the point where you can no longer see the water, look for a trail through the woods on your RIGHT hand side. Approx. 15 paces off the main trail, you will see a tree with a white sticker which says "Conservation Land Walking Trail." Go off the main trail and walk to the RIGHT of this tree on the path. You will pass deadwood on your RIGHT. On your LEFT will be an extremely large downed tree, still attached at the base of the trunk. Here you will find Box # 1.
Please recover box carefully. After recovering Box #1 ... go back to the main trail.
Continue down the stone covered path in the same direction as before. You will continue up a slight hill. Notice a tree on the right? Wouldn't this be a great place to hide a letterbox? ... Not today! Continue down the path.
Look for a "path" on your LEFT which goes slightly downhill into a half moon shaped area. Follow this "path" downhill. You will see a large dead tree (approx 25 feet long) lying on the ground on your RIGHT. Somewhere along this tree you will find Box #2.
Please recover box carefully. After recovering Box #2 ... Continue on this "path" which will lead you back to the main trail. (you will see another path directly across from you - do NOT take this path.) Continue traveling on the main path covered in stones.
Keep an eye out for the hawk's nest!
At the end of the main path, you will come to two posts with a chain linked to them. Turn around and walk back approx. 40 paces. You will see a small maple tree leaning to the LEFT on your LEFT approx 10 paces in - off the main path. Behind this tree approx 8 feet, you will see a small cluster of elm saplings. Within this cluster you will find Box #3.
Please recover box carefully. After recovering Box #3 ... Return to the main trail and continue in the same direction back down the stone covered path, back to your car.
The whole journey should take approx 35-45 minutes.
