6/18/11 - informed that the area is full of foliage. You might have to be a tad creative to get to the box. I was not informed of any poison ivy-- good thing!

DIRECTIONS: Sperry park, Avon.
Rte 44, to Rte 10North/202 (Simsbury Rd.) Sperry Park is on the RIGHT, opposite Fisher Dr. After turning into the park, keep RIGHT up towards the baseball fields. Park in the spots on the LEFT if available. If not, additional parking is available further down.

MYSTERY ITEM INFORMATION: I am a good source of magnesium, which can help reduce the severity of asthma, lower high blood pressure, and prevent migraine headaches, as well as reducing the risk of heart attack and stroke. I am thought to have originated in Mexico and Peru. I am one of the first plants to ever be cultivated in the United States. I have been used for more than 5,000 years by the Native Americans, who not only used me as a food/oil source, but also used me for various purposes including as a dye pigment. The Spanish explorers brought me back to Europe, and after being first grown in Spain, I was subsequently introduced to other neighboring countries. Currently, I provide one of the most popular oils in the world and my leading commercial producers include the Russian Federation, Peru, Argentina, Spain, France and China. Since 1991, my top selling brand has sponsored the Babe Ruth League, for youth baseball and softball players ages 5-18 nationwide. The Babe Ruth League has over 900,000 players in 45,000+ teams across the U.S., and even has a division named after Cal Ripken. What am I? Follow my trail...

CLUES: From the parking area, walk between to two lit baseball fields, through the gravel dugout area and to the metal fence. Turn LEFT and follow the fence. Soon the fence will end. Continue to follow the tree line. Curve around behind the mini backstop of the mini practice field. Pass the bleachers and a bench. Soon, you will see a clearing into the woods. Take about 20 paces past this clearing (not into it, past it.) You will see a large tree covered with thick vines. Look into the woods for a fallen tree reaching out towards you. Use this as a railing to enter the woods on a downhill slope. to the RIGHT of our railing is a man-cut section of a tree's trunk. Beneath this chunk of tree you will find Box #5's identity.

ADDITIONAL: There are some paved trails at this park, on which there was a road race the day we planted. We were busy with an exciting game and we did not have enough time to explore.
