WARNING: These images may be adult content. You be the judge whether you want your kids to see them. Artwork from the book 101 Uses for Dead Cats by Simon Bond

Location: Spencer's Butte

Travel south on Willamette Street till you get to the Spencer's Butte Parking lot.

I am marking these boxes as extreme because the last part of the hike to the top is really scrambling up big rocks and boulders, also because there have been lots VANDALISM in the parking lot lately.

As some people know we have 5 cats at home. One day we decided to take them on a hike to the top of Eugene's highest point. We hiked up and up and up. Near the top the trail disappeared and turned in to rock climbing. The kitties were SO exhausted that once we reached the peek they laid down to take a nap and never woke up.
Now we are pretty crafty people and if you have met us you will notice that almost right away. Not wanting to litter on the trail we decided to get crafty with the carcasses of the kitties and hide them for our fellow letterboxers to find.

Our first craft project is a chimney sweep. Cats make great chimney sweeps because all those whiskers get in all the tiny spaces. When travelling back down the trail from the top take notice of the first stair case you come to. As you reach the bottom step look on the backside of the HUGE mossy maple. Knock on the door to find our first kitty.

As we made our way down the trail some more we came across a young lady who was always disappointed in the size of her chest. We offered her a simple surgery free solution. She took one of our larger kitties and ducked behind a rock to fit him into her shirt. You can probably catch her if you proceed forward through the intersection and make a left onto the small side trail. She went behind the tallest rock on the right. Look behind the small mossy rock beneath the tall rock.

In our back yard we have quite a variety of birds that like to play in our bird baths. We decided to give them something to live in that was warm and soft. We made a bird house out of the next kitty, complete with perch and pole. Before crossing the stone bridge count 10 PACES backwards to a nubby tree with ferns at its base. Look on the east side behind the fern covered by a rocky door.

Not only are we crafty, but we love to play games. So we made a ring toss game with our next kitty. We kept truckin' down the trail and after a bit we found another spot where a side trail went left, but instead of following it we stashed our game in the crevasse hidden by ferns at the base of the large maple on the right.

Sometimes in our spare time we like to make beer. Well every keg of beer need a beer tap. As we came to the bottom of the hill we started for the parking lot but noticed a challenge course straight ahead, so we went to check it out. We played on a bunch of the courses but the one we wanted to play on we couldn't reach. Find this tall tire course. Stand under the tires and walk 15 steps to the south west corner. See the broken stump? Look in the small hole on the north side behind bark and moss.

We hope you have enjoyed the hike and the view.
Happy Trails!

P.S. No animals were harmed in the making of these letterboxes. :)
