First finders; Rubaduc, and Gizz 10-4-08

PREVIOUSLY, I PLANNED TO RELOCATE THIS BOX, DUE TO STORM DAMAGE IN THE AREA. HOWEVER, AS OF LATE AUGUST, 2010, THE FORESTRY PEOPLE HAVE DONE A LOT OF WORK, AND THE AREA HAS BEEN CLEARED. I HAVE DECIDED TO LEAVE THE BOX HERE.

I have hiked the white trail that connects Burr Pond to Taylor Brook campground many times. I was thrilled to see that Rubaduc recently placed some boxes there, and it has inspired me to do the same. Cat Resting is in memory of our cat Geronimo. Frequently, when we would hike there, he would follow us. After a while, he would be panting and in need of a rest, but didn't like for us to carry him. So we would stop at this boulder, while he rested.

Burr Pond is located on Burr Mt. Rd. in Torrington. Take Route 8, to exit 46, Pinewoods Rd. Turn west off the exit, and at the stop light, take a left onto Winsted Rd. At the next stop light (about a mile from the exit), take a right onto Burr Mt. Rd. Keep a lookout for signs to the boat launch on the left, which is beyond the entrance to the state park.

After parking, go back to the road, cross and head to the left. Roughly 25 feet up is the entrance to the white trail, on the right. It has recently been cleared, and rerouted in places. Follow the white blazes. Keep on going, looking for a red arrow pointing north-east, then another one pointing roughly north. At this point, these are very faded. Follow the white markings, and at the top of the hill there is a large rock to the right of the trail. There are fallen trees laying on it. This is our Cat Resting spot, although it used to be much clearer!! Look on the south east side of the rock, beneath the roots.

Please allow some artistic license for my stamp. It's not very good, and I'll redo it at some point. I know what I wanted it to look like, and this one will do for now.

Many thanks, and make sure to bring along the Burr to Taylor clues. There are also boxes in Taylor Brook campgrounds, and around Burr Pond, so maybe take those as well. Happy hunting!!!
