Colchester Schoolhouse
The Colchester Schoolhouse was built about 1815 as the District #4 school. It operated as a one-room school in Mallett’s Bay at the corner of Prim Rd and Lakeshore Dr until the 1920's. The building was moved to Airport Park and restored to its 1920 appearance in 2007. It is open to the public on weekends from 11-3 from Memorial Day through mid-October. It's worth the time to stop in and visit.
Airport Park, located on Colchester Point Rd, can also be reached by the bike path after crossing the Winooski River from Burlington.
The boardwalk into the bog has been repaired, not much to see but interesting nevertheless. Feel free to explore.
School’s out and
It’s time to play
Head to the outfield
Circle round all the way
Which way to go
At the post at the end?
Head to the bog,
A large oak marks the bend
To the left a small trail
beckons “Follow me”
Into the woods
Soon a boardwalk you’ll see
The boardwalk’s not safe
so keep going instead
not the path on the right,
but 75 more paces ahead.
On the right a birch
with 4 trunks you will see
Your prize is nestled
in the base of this tree.
You've found the box
and left your mark
Now any trail will take you
right back to the park.
This is my first letterbox. I hope you enjoy it.
