In the Collinsville section of Canton lies a little gem of what used to be a ski slope. From Rt. 179 south, cross the Farmington River and at the stop sign go straight ahead, up the hill. At the top turn right onto Dunne Ave. a one way street. After 0.01 mi. look to the left for a very narrow driveway marked with two white signs, the lower one says "Canton Land Trust Sweetheart Mt. hikers welcome". Turn in and park in the lot on the left at the end.

This was a ski area so there will be some climbing to do, nothing outrageous. It took me under an hour to plant and write clues.

From the west side of the parking lot go to the sign board and notice where the yellow trail goes. The arrow points right but if you go straight from the board, you'll see the trail to the left in less than 100 feet. Don't stay on the unmarked trail after this. Stay on yellow all the way but keep your eyes open and you'll see the blazes for the Mother's Meadow Trail blazed in red on the right, there are downed trees at this point. After cilmbing a ways you'll come to a large moss covered ledge where you have to make a right and there are "stairs" to help the climb. Keep climbing and at the top of this hill (there is more up) where the trail turns left, look to your right for a look at some of the old, rusted ski equipment. At the beginng of the loop go left and the trail levels out for awhile going through some laurel (in bloom today). You'll soon get to a spot where you have to walk up over a rocky ledge area, and it "feels" like there should be a view but trees block the way. Then you come to a slight downhill with a 7 ft. rotted stump on the right. Turn around, go back 16 steps, go to the rock at 260 degrees. Since that rock has no nooks and crannies, go through the trees at 280 degrees and look for boxing rocks to cover the Nirus. Be sure to poke around with a stick before pulling it out.

After stamping in and replacing the box, continue on the yellow back to the loop, turn left and return to your car.

If you wish, bring a box to plant and scout the Mother's Meadow Trail on the way down.
