Mr Lincoln and his hat. Mr Lincoln has one of his stovepipe hats on display at his son's house in Hildene. Everytime my family and I have been to Hildene the hat has still been missing. The tour guides have assured us that it is safe and sound with Mickey Mouse on display at Disney. The hat is due to return on Mr. Lincoln's birthday in Feb. 09.
To the Letterbox:
From the Hildene gift shop follow the paved black-top path that leads up to the Main house. You will need a admission ticket to enter the house. The path meanders up past a bench and a garbage can. A gravel path heads off to the left. (this may be also paved in the future) You will see 3 sets of rocks on each side of the path. Go to your left. A hollowed out tree trunk sits just past these 3 rocks in the woods. You will see lots of moss covering the trunk. Just inside is the Mr. Lincoln Letterbox.
There is 2 stamps. One is Mr. Lincoln and the other is his hat. If you are lucky enough you will be able to the hat in real life. If not, you will have to settle for this little stamp.
