Who can say that letterboxing has not changed the way they look at things? A chimney in the woods, a hole at the base of a tree, a mile marker along the road, a majestic oak, etc. Now I find that even an off hand remark can sometimes become letterboxing fodder and inspire me to be creative.

What an absolutely gorgeous day to be out letterboxing and what better place than Day Pond?

Find the granite marker that reads: Arnold Ravine Wilderness Area. Park near the yellow gate and head northwest around it. This looks like an old road which stays wide and straight most of the way.
Watch for foundations, stone walls and majestic trees along the way. This fall day it was a beautiful walk.
Stay on this road, going downhill, cross a bridge, see the blue trail on the left, watch out for the car (I almost got run over). See the blue trail again on the right and then a great stonewall on the left along the edge of the road until it finally turns a corner and heads away from you. Keep walking (about half an hour in all) until this “road” takes a definite curve to the right. At this point leave the road behind and go straight until you come to the river. Sandy beach and bridge abutments are your companions. Enjoy this place (let the dogs swim) have lunch and when you’re done, head back the way you came (maybe 15 steps) until you see (on the right) a twin sister tree with a side sibling. Carefully bushwhack up the hill behind this tree. At the top find two downed trees and look in the V where they meet. The box is only covered with leaves.

Enjoy the uphill walk on the way to your car.

Hunting might be allowed. Wear orange to be safe.
