This is an easy, relatively flat hike. Round trip is approximately 30 minutes. You need to bring an ink pad to use the stamp provided. Have fun!
From the Monument Mountain Regional High School driveway on Route 7 in Great Barrington turn left. Take the next left at the first light called Monument Valley Rd.
You will see a large playground on your left at Muddy Brook Elementary school. Start there. Look for the gate on the fence found around the perimeter of the playground. Go through and past the pond on your right.
The trail you need is right ahead of you. Take the wooded trail and follow it down the straight path. This is the Monument Mtn. x-country trail.
Follow the main trail for approximately 5-10 minutes. You might notice apple trees on the sides of the trails. As you progress, it becomes a little hilly and windy.
You will come to a fork in the trail with woods to your right and an opening with a mountain view to your left. Go right.
Just ahead you will see a rotten tree on your left in the shape of a V. You are getting closer.
Then, you will see another tree on your left with no bark. From here, take 20 steps forward. You should see a large rock on your right next to a tree that looks like it might reach out and grab you!
Watch out for prickers as you look behind the rock for a little nook. Check inside and you'll find our letterbox.
