Recently an amazing letterboxer lead me to a most amazing old letterbox. This box was planted on Nov. 29, 1999 by Bob, Judy & Abbie. The clues were hosted by EMS at Crystal Mall as were a lot of boxes back then, but now I think it’s time for this box to be online. When we found it, this box hadn’t been found since 12-03-2003, the log book was very wet so we left a new one. Please don’t look for this box if the lean to is occupied and make sure to rehide it well so that it can last another nine years.

The following are the original clues, with my comments in parenthesis to indicate a few changes in terrain etc.

The starting point for this letterbox will begin at the boat launch at Wyassup Lake in North Stonington. From the parking lot follow the blue blazed trail to the North and enter the woods at the gate. Follow the trail towards High Ledges. At the steep ascent before High Ledges, where the trail passes thru a stone wall turn and walk .2 of a mile at a heading of 260 degrees. There is no marked trail (staying on course will get you there). From the front of the lean to go to the rock at 105 degrees. Find an old can in a tree (this can is missing but you can almost "see" where it must have been) at 302 degrees and turn 45 degrees (this means to turn right) and walk 13 paces (steps) to the valley between two rocks.
Update 2021.
The box lasted MORE than 9 more years, so let’s see if we can make it last another 20.

If you can’t imagine where the tree with the old can once stood try this: Follow Duc’s clues up to “stand in front of the shelter and go to the rock at 105 degrees”. Then, stand on the rock and look north. Behind the shelter, up on the ledge is an elbow tree. Stand at the tree and site about 30 degrees, go thirteen steps to a valley between two rocks.
