Difficulty: Mostly Easy
Terrain: Drive up, then a moderate walk uphill on gently sloping mostly flat ground.
Time: Less than 15 minutes after you park.
Distance: Less than 300 yards from car to quest and back again. (1 Pace = 2 steps)
Materials: Take along your stamp pad, stamp and walking shoes.
Challenge: (Although cardinal directions are mentioned below, you really won't need a compass.) Counting to high number and simple math required.

This box is located in a very visible portion of Athens, Ohio.

To begin, drive to Athens, and approach from the north, along Columbus Road.
Just near the top of the ridge line, or hill, you'll find a place where you'll be treated like a queen. So smooth, so cool. Any evening in the summer, you'll find families and couples converging on this business to satisfy their sweet tooth and enjoy something smooth and cool. (You might consider getting a dairy treat later too!)

If the parking lot is not full, park here and begin walking south, up the hill along Columbus Road on the sidewalk. As soon as you cross Sunset Drive, begin counting each one of the new, light colored concrete squares of the sidewalk all the way up to the very top of the hill.

Your count will include from a red bumpy tile to another red bumpy tile... but continue around the corner and count the last few squares that are new-looking as well. (In other words, count all the concrete that was laid as part of this new project, months ago.) Now, divide that total number by the number of red bumpy tiles that you have encountered. Use this resulting number to count squares as you go back down the same sloping walk toward your car... (Are you working up an appetite yet?)

When you get to the concrete square we've directed you to, look for something black and white nearby, on the side away from the curb. (Dogs typically enjoy stopping here for a break, so try to look natural as you congregate here in mid hill...)

What you seek will be at the scrub tree line, just a few feet over the edge of the hill from this black and white object. As there is no place next to the object to hide an LB, and there is a barrier to climb over, we've had to tuck it back into the shrub line, on the ground but not too far over the edge of the hill. At the base of a three stem tree, look for a camoflauge tape-wrapped can. If you've taken more than five giant-steps from the metal barrier, you're going too far.

(Now, put your back to the black and white object and face away from the LB. What do you see to the SE that is related to the b&w object? Look familiar? Hometown heroes!)

Bring your own stamp, ink pad, towel to wipe off the jar and perhaps something to sit upon the ground. Unfortunately, there is no place to sit or rest here, unless you walk back down to the cool treats location. In fact, that's not a bad way to reward your searching party for their efforts, no matter what the season! Enjoy!

PS: Please be sure to return all materials back into the box, wrapped in baggies and secure from moisture. Be sure to re-hide the letterbox close to the exact location you found it, so that other families may enjoy this little hike!
