Ebenezer Tuttle was the only Connecticut native to join Lewis and Clark’s Corps of Discovery. This stamp was originally a Hitchhiker created to commemorate his travels but was retired to this Peaceful Valley resting place after it returned last year. Also bring along the clues to America the Beautiful, Illinois and The Connecticut ABC Series, T is for Tolland, and the Sound of Music Series which are in the same park.

I suggest printing off a trail map at http://www.conservingtollandct.org/ before you start or pick up a trail map at the trailhead.

Directions to Trailhead:
From the center of Tolland take CT 74 west to CT 30 North. Follow CT 30 North approximately 2 miles to Hunter Road on the right. Follow Hunter Road about 0.1 mile to Peter Green Road. Turn left onto Peter Green. Look for a break in the guard rail on the left about ½ mile down Peter Green and turn into the Campbell Peaceful Valley Conservation area.

Trail Directions:
Immediately past the trailhead you will cross a small stream and come to an intersection. Take the Yellow Trail straight ahead. It will wind its way up the hill in front of you with logs lining the trail. You will climb stone steps and cross a log bridge over an open space. At the top of the hill, but before the overlook you will see an oak directly in front of you about 9 steps away. When you get there you will note it’s a twin oak. From the twin oak sight a rock about 40 degrees 18 paces (double steps) away. Under and behind this rock is Ebenezer Tuttle. Please sign in discretely and re-hide well as this may be a very busy spot in good weather. Then, enjoy the view.

After you are finished and have re-hidden the box you can return the way you came or continue on the Yellow Trail which will head down the hill looping around the other side. If you continue ahead, at the intersection with the Blue Trail, turn left continuing on the Yellow trail will take you back to your car. Note, watch for the trail intersection by the bridge near your car, it’s easy to miss.
