Some of you may know that Jack Keruoac dabbled in writing haiku and other poetry as well as writing novels. This box is a little tribute to Jack and was placed in the Isamu Taniguchi Japanese Garden at Zilker Botanical Gardens. Please bring along a haiku to add to the logbook, or, if you feel so inspired, compose one on site. (A haiku normally contains 17 syllables: 5 in the first and last lines and 7 syllables in the middle line.)
Once at the gardens, find your way to the tea house. Stand with your back to the entrance of the tea house. Go right for 15 steps to the point where the path splits in three. Follow the rightmost path for 16 steps to the point where the path T's at a large tree. Follow the path to the right until you find the bench placed in memory of Herb Hillery. From the bench, continue along the path for 28 more steps. Look to the left and find the bamboo shoot that proclaims Crystal's love for Hector. At that shoot, jump down off the path and look for a large flat rock that has fallen from the retaining wall. Jack's box is hidden behind this rock, obscured by more rocks. Please be sneaky as this section of the garden is very popular.
