Marathon Memories: Portland 2008

Old Spaghetti Factory
715 S.W. Bancroft St.
Portland, OR 97239
(503)222-5375

This restaurant is the headquarters for the international family-style eatery. It sits on the banks of the Willamette River just across from Ross Island. The chain of more than 40 restaurants started right here in Portland, OR. Furnished heavily in antiques, you get the feeling you are visiting Aunt Baiba’s or Aunt Sid’s for a family reunion. When our family comes here, it IS a family reunion of sorts! This is where we choose to dine on Marathon Eve. Some of us have come to Portland to run, and the rest to support the runners. All of us have come to the Old Spaghetti Factory to carb-load although there are low-carb options available! All selections are full meals and include salad, bread, entree, beverage and dessert. Choose from five sauces to top your noodles: tomato, clam, meat, mushroom and mizithra cheese.

Reservations are not accepted and you will most likely have to wait for your table. And that’s a good thing if you are a LETTERBOXER! Enjoy the grounds and the river views and seek your prize OR enjoy a meal before strolling to the flag pole. With your back to the flag pole and your belly button to the river, walk 10 steps north to a slab of forgotten cement. There is a nice prize awaiting the first finder!
