Stand in the center of the Sacrificial Sundial. After admiring the vista and pondering the uses of this strange concrete circle, head off on the Eastview Trail due north. After a short distance, jog left and follow the Woodland Trail continuing to go North. At the next intersection, turn left onto the Winding Trail. When this trail ends at a T, turn right, on the West Trail, going North.
As you walk along the West Trail, keep an eye out for a small brook running quite close to the trail on the right. It may or may not have water running in the stream bed, depending on recent precipitation. If there is water running, you will hear it trickling through and over the rocks. Cross, and find a small lichen splotched boulder. From this boulder, sight 146 degrees to an oak and an evergreen tree, joined at the base. The evergreen tree has fallen. Follow the fallen tree to a fractured boulder with a dead tree growing out of the crack. Your goal is near the bottom of the crack hidden by rocks and forest debris.

• Keep your eyes and ears open for mountain bikers.
• Also, watch for dogs.
