The little rabbit ran away from the cove near the harbor along the babbling brook, following the brook upstream. Darting away from the brook, then back again, he took care not to fall through holes in the trail where erosion had left only roots holding up small amounts of sphagnum moss. Upon spying a fox across the brook, the hare fled in earnest away from the water, into the woods, up the hill. He spotted a felled giant to his left but feared that would be the most obvious place the fox would look. A short distance afterward, he found a tall snag to his left, with another broken snag to his right. Spying the rest of this tree lying on the ground, he ran to the end farthest from the trail and crouched as he waited, out of breath.
