Letterbox Name: The Great American Pin-up Series: Rita
Location: Delafield, WI
Distance: Approximately 1.0 miles (round-trip)

For those who have followed the Great American Pin-Up Series during the last 12 months, you’ve seen several pages of stories about the beautiful ladies that have graced our stamps and boxes. And as much as we’ve enjoyed writing and posting those stories and clues, we thought it appropriate to do something a little different to celebrate the series’ one-year anniversary.

The “Rita” box is a tribute to our favorite pin-up story – Stephen King’s “Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption.” And the clue is as follows:

******************************************************

There's this big forest up near Delafield. You know where Delafield is? There are lots of forests up there, but you’re looking for one in particular. It’s just south of the town of Delafield. Find the Meadow trail, and follow it along till you get to the South Field. There’s a long rock wall with big oaks standing like fenceposts all along the length of it. Like something out of a Robert Frost poem.

Promise me. If you ever get out to Delafield, find that spot. There’s a gap in the wall, and you’ll need to leave the trail and walk 72 paces in a westerly direction. In the base of the north side of that wall you'll find a rock that has no earthly business in a Wisconsin forest. A piece of black volcanic glass. You'll find something buried under it I want you to have.

******************************************************

The Great American Pin-Up Series is, first and foremost, a celebration of the style, femininity, and fun of pin-up art over the years. We hope that you enjoy the images as much as we’ve enjoyed selecting and carving them.

Please note: The stamp is a bit large, and will require a 4”x 6” space for stamping. This stamp will only require grey (preferred) or black ink.
