Location scouts have to find real homes for exterior shots in films, and some neighborhoods are more popular than others. From Long Beach Blvd, proceed west on San Antonio Dr. At the five-way intersection, turn right. At the end of the street, turn left.
First up, on your left at 4252 is the home of Jim Cunningham (Patrick Swayze) in the film "Donny Darko" and a little further on the right at 4225 is the home of Donny (Jake Gyllenhaal) himself. Continue around the curving street until you reach 4160, the home of Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick) in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off".
Continue until you reach San Antonio Dr again, turn right and when the street ends, park alongside. At the corner of San Antonio and Del Mar (the side opposite the park) you will see the drain that goes underneath the tracks beyond a gate. To the right of this is the entrance to a path alongside Del Mar.
#1: Donny Darko
Enter the path and proceed north. It will gently slope upwards at first, then begin to slope downwards. When it reaches some stone steps, instead of climbing them, continue another ten or fifteen feet along the fence to a small log. The box is under a rock just past it, buried deep in leaves.
When you're finished make sure the logbook is in a bag, and that bag and the stamp are both in a second bag.
#2: Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Retired as of 8/24/09
This came up missing again, and I've decided not to replace it. One box is enough for this short walk.
At this point you can return to your car by the path, or climb the steps and walk back on the street. Drive around the neighborhood some and you may recognize many more of these homes from various films, notably the "American Pie" series. |
