This is a short--perhaps 1/4 mile--walk over level terrain. Heistand Woods Nature Preserve is located in Van Wert (or maybe just outside Van Wert?) on State Rt 116, east of its intersection with US Rt 127 (116 is also called Hospital Dr, and along part of its length, Fox Rd.)

(Last reported found 3/04--reported as possibly missing 5/26)

You'll have to dodge an alligator and a couple of dinosaurs to get this box. Once you're safely past them, you'll be welcomed to Heistand Woods Nature Preserve. Walk over the water (depending on time of year), and you'll come to a choice. If the Perserve was established in 1961, go right. If it was established in 1962, go left. When you come to the next fork in the trail, choose the opposite direction (if you went right last time, go left now; if you went left last time, go right now). Go past the topless tree and the overanxious tree that is stepping right up to the trail (both on your right). The box, covered by leaves and sticks, is between the toes of an oak on your left, on the side closest to the trail.

If the skeeters are active, you might want to do your stamping in the nearby open area--go back to the trail you turned just off of, and go left for a short distance to the open area.

You might drop me an e-mail when you find this box--it's the first in Van Wert county and I won't be checking up on it until my annual summer visit next year.
