- From the historic courthouse in the center of the traffic circle in Dawsonville, drive on 53 West 6.3 miles to the Amicalola River.

- If you are coming from the west, take 53 East until you reach the Amicalola River bridge. There is a parking area on the north side of the bridge.

- At the edge of the parking area toward the river is a blue-blazed trail. Follow this trail downriver, under the bridge to the left.

- Walk down along the river on the boardwalk. At the end of the boardwalk, keep going downriver until the trail forks sharply to the left uphill.

- Take the trail past the sign for the Old Still. Continue past the sign for the grapes. Keep going until you reach the sign for the Buck Scrape. With your back to the front of the sign, look for two trees that grow from one trunk, about ten feet from the sign. There is a log in-between the split in the trunk making a Y shape. When you look through the split in the trunk, about 50 yards ahead, you will see another two trees that grow from one trunk. There is also a log in-between the split in this trunk making a Y shape. When you look through the split in this tree, you will see a large pine tree about 50 feet ahead. It will have burn marks going up the tree 3 to 4 feet. Stand in front of the pine and look to the left for a larger pine tree. The box is at the base of this tree.

This is a beautiful hike along the river any time of year.
