On the plaza at the core of Downtown Orlando, under a black awning with a green letter "i" on it, is an information center with a scale model of downtown. Although the intersection is of Church Street and Orange Avenue, it is considered the “Main & Main” intersection of downtown Orlando. Inside the Information Center is a photograph entitled Waverly Skyline. This wide-format photograph was taken by local artist and politically-informed inner-city-business-owner David Van Gelder.
Stand back from the photograph to take it all in. Stand with the scale model between you and the photograph. On the other side of the model, beside an information kiosk, is a black box. Go ahead and open it and find the public art cache. The cache is right next to a geo cache box. Make sure you record your find in the letter boxing art cache journal. Remember to act like you know what you are doing so as not to raise. Feel free to take one of the souvenir tokes from the bin beside the log-in book. The center is open Monday through Friday 9 am to 5 pm.
Be sure to check out more than a dozen other hidden Public Art Treasure Caches at www.ocfl.net/publicarttreasurecaches and send an email to Terry.Olson@ocfl.net or call us at 407-836-5540 to let us know about your hunting experience.
