From Marathon, drive south on highway 385 toward Big Bend National Park. At 10 miles from town, pull off at a roadside picnic area on your right. Read the informational sign about Los Caballos -- a unique geologic formation. You can see some of the "horses" here but they're best viewed from the highway, a little bit farther south.
To find the box, walk to your right along the fenceline, to the end of the maintained area. (You'll see four short, round wooden posts about 12" high.) Continue 10 steps to a longer post lying on the ground. The box is under this post.
