First you will need to walk in the gate closest to the maintenance area and there will be two sets of stairs. Walk down both sets of stairs and there will be a path in front of you. Walk down the path until you get to your first right, take that right towards the river. Walk towards the river path and follow it to the river. Cross the bridge and there will be a shack called The River Basin Terminus. Under that shack will be your surprise.

The Saugus National Historical Park
I put my letterbox in the Saugus National Historical State Park. The Saugus National State park was the first integrated ironworks in North America. It started in 1646-1668. The park consists of reconstructed blast furnaces, rolling mills, and a restored seventeenth century house. The European iron workers brought many different and special skills and talents to the Massachusetts colony. The British Isles laid down the foundation in 1646 of America’s iron and steal industry.
The park officially opened on May 16th 2008, so it is a fairly new park. They also celebrated the rebirth of the Saugus River. There have been many three hundred year old artifacts found along with working waterwheels, and some mill machinery. Many architects and construction workers worked for over 18 months fixing up old mills, and old iron houses that were still standing for tourists. The business eventually failed but, they started the great iron industry that is still used today. Some of the artifacts that were found helped to design the national park that is today.
