The "Palmetto #2" minibox replaces my original letterbox in this park. The park offers great camping, big group shelter for parties, picnicing, fishing, hiking. The CCC build some of the facilities at the park.
Directions:
From I-10, Exit Hwy 183 heading for Gonzales. Turn right Park road (Signs) in a few miles and go to visitor center on the right at the park. Pay fee, get map, and go to second entry (which is after the river) to the park, and turn left and go to parking area on the left at the big stone pavillion.
To the Minibox:
Return down the road to the "Start" of the Palmetto Trail. Go left onto trail to the water tower. Behind the tower, continue on the trail, finding other boxes, until you come to post #18. From that post, go into trees at 160 degrees for 14 steps to the back side of mid sized tree. Mini is hanging 3 feet up from a vine on this tree.
