*** Part of the "Other Forts of the West" Series ***

The "Fort Waul" minibox is located in Independence Park, in Gonzales, Texas. The actual location of the fort is in town, but only some breastworks remain. Fort Waul was a Confederate States of America fort built in 1863-64, and is thought to be the only similar structure commissioned west of the Mississippi River by the CSA. The fort was built in Gonzales to protect against inland invasion by Yankee troops following an attack by Federal gunboats at the old port of Indianola.

Directions:
From I-35, Hwy 183 through Gonzales to south side. Park is on the right. Turn in and go straight toward pool. Tak road to right along the river until parking area on the left near the railed sidewalk going up.

To the Minibox:
Walk up the railed sidewalk and take look at spillway. Continue on up to end of railing. Go past ramp going down to the river, then go off sidewalk to the left (along the river bank) to the corner of the metal fence. At the corner base you should find 2 rocks over the box.
