Update (6/15/13): The box and logbook are still there, but someone replaced the lobster claw harmonica stamp with a bat stamp. If anyone finds the stamp elsewhere in the store or remembers taking it, please return it to its home.
Also, the lobster claw harmonicas themselves have long since sold out (mostly because of this box) and will not be replaced.

The Lobster Claw Harmonica Letterbox is located in a big, lobster-colored treasure box of sorts, filled with candy, plastic paratroopers, puzzles, and the letterbox’s namesake.

Find it by walking a few blocks on Harvard Street in Brookline, heading north from the Coolidge Corner stop off the “C” branch of the Green Line. The address number is composed of three digits which add up to 11.

Once inside, the small black box can be found above eye-level, on the side of the store opposite where lobster claw harmonicas were once located. Without having to move containers around, look among the bouncy balls and erasers and you should find it.

Be sure to ask Mrs. Weiss about her store’s history, thank her for housing the letterbox, and buy a treasure or snack before you leave to explore the rest of the neighborhood.

The letterbox is only accessible during limited afternoon hours. The store has no telephone or website, so be sure to bring directions for other boxes in the area in case the store isn't opened. The box is easy to retrieve, and certainly kid-friendly. Extra caution is needed if there are other customers near by.

Enjoy my first letterbox!
