To find Mr. Thoreau, follow the directions to the Historical/Monumental Spots of Fitchburg letterboxes or just park your car in front of the new bookstore in downtown Fitchburg called The Rabbit Hole located at 805 Main Street.

Henry David Thoreau was a great American naturalist, author and philosopher who loved the great outdoors. Born in 1817, he is best known for his novels Walden, The Maine Woods and Cape Cod. Because these are also my favorite places to vacation, I placed this letterbox at the Rabbit Hole bookstore.

When you walk into the Rabbit Hole bookstore, make sure you say "Hello" to Sam or Shane or Linda,

Find the spiral staircase and walk up to the next level.

Walk past the cd case and then walk over some "palm trees". Look for a small bookcase, which should be directly ahead of you. the bookcase has a whole series of Junie B. Jones books on top of it.

Look behind the bookcase and you will see a big window. On the ledge of the window you will find a big "rabbit". Under the rabbit is a book written by Henry David Thoreau. Look inside, your treasure awaits.

Note: There is a companion letterbox that is located on the ledge of another window that is facing the front of the store. It is in a blue plastic box.

If you like the works of Henry David Thoreau, be sure to check out some of our other children"s books that are written by D.B.Johnson. His "Henry..." series books are all based on the life of Thoreau. The first book is called "Henry Hikes to Fitchburg".

And, don't forget to look for chunks of the Berlin Wall before you leave the store.

The store hours are Monday - Saturday 10-7, Sunday 12-5

TH RABBIT HOLE BOOKSTORE IS CLOSED
