This box was originally planted temporarily at Camp Adams, near Molalla, Oregon for the "We Live and Breathe Letterboxing" American 10th Anniversary Gathering to pay homage to all the banana slugs I saw there while helping to plan the gathering.
It has now been permanantly planted on Broughton's Bluff in Lewis and Clark State Park, near Troutdale Oregon, at the very beginning of Columbia River Highway. I've seen a few of the big slugs there too, so I thought this would be a great place for it. Enjoy!

HIKE LEVEL: Difficult trail, but if I can do it, anyone should be able to. Path is steep and extremely uneven but should be safe as long as you use caution, wear good shoes, and trust your instincts about your own hiking abilities. DO NOT attempt in wet weather.
HIKE LENGTH: About an hour, round trip.
CLUES:
From the parking lot, spot a small staircase along the tree line leading up into the woods near the south end of the park. Take this path uphill into the woods to the base of a basalt rockface, ignoring a fork to the left along the way. Turn right at a T at the base of this rockface, around to another rockface looking down on a wooden stand containing rescue equipment. Ignoring any paths that lead sharply uphill to your left, continue past two more smaller rockfaces. Cross over a small runoff stream and then clamour over a stretch of fallen boulders to relocate the path on the other side. At the far end of a 5th rock face, make note of a natural bench made from a column of fallen basalt with another large column leaning upright next to it. A fern-covered tree stretches over the path here, and the letterbox is located in the base of this tree on the side closest to the rockface.
