Stone Town Loop #1

Checked - 11 July 09
A small loop in Stonington CT, for those days that us "boxers" need a "FIX" because of too much snow,..or just not enough time to spend a day picnicking & hiking,- (which is OUR preferred adventures)! Plan on Spending 1 Hr. Stamping in & a Quick L@@K! In Order for these boxes to survive, Please be Discrete & Please Rehide well. These boxes have the potential to have Curious Eyes & Noses upon you at anytime,..especially on Weekends. Remember this is a drive -By! - These are some pretty "cool" carvings,..You'll Need Your Markers for colors!

From 95 take exit 91. From south take Right at stoplight at the end of exit. From North, take Left and go Straight through 4 way stoplight. You will be heading down S. Pequot trail past a bunch of signs - inc. a Green one that says "Stonington Borough",.. Continue past these around a couple of windy corners. Extremely soon, on left, you will see "The Road Church" which was founded in 1674. Take next left onto Flanders Road. Aprox. 100 yards on your right - Hilliard (Flanders rd.) Cemetery... Pull off Rd. Here, in
front of gates.

BOX #1
From the right hand set of gates, take 30 paces up , inside the gated wall (Toward Pond). Take a bearing of about 310 and find "Ebeneezer Searle" with a "Green Umbrella" over his head. Now head Due North to a large Oak tree huddled by a few hemlocks.. Facing wall - On Right side of oak,.. "Shin to Knee High" behind a loose Rock in the wall is The "Hilliard Cemetery" Flanders Rd. Letterbox.

Box #2
Continue Counter clockwise around this wall and see a lonely Monument bearing the name "COLLINS" (say Hi to "Barnabus") Mom said this is where he lived, when I was a Kid! - THANKS MOM! - Facing the Pond see an extremely large twin sister White Oak,.. At its base on right hand side and the tree has absorbed the wall is The "ROAD CHURCH" letterbox. (Too many eyes at RD. Church to take you there.)(L@@K the HUGE Scrambly Chestnut, (I believe), behind the wall at this box) - Kinda' Cool Huh?

Box #3
Getting back in your car,.. continue down Flanders Rd. and take your next right onto "Pellegrino Road." Aprox 200 yds. Follow this at speed limit and come to a view of 2 Stop Signs - Extreme Right at 1st one.(Remember You're Kinda doin' a Loop) 75 feet or so at the bottom of this lil' hill is a pull off on Right. Pull In ! - Youll be seeing a nice little waterway & a spot to sit down & enjoy. Behind this spot is a Table & Chair. Underneath "Roadside" of table is the "Sitting Spot" Letterbox with a few well placed rocks. You could actually stamp in on table, "Heads Up" - Lots of walkers & cyclists use this Rd now.

Box #4
Do This One Quick As Possible!!!
NEVER saw cars here growing up. Even Cops use this to getbetween towns etc.. AND it was back then, "THE" only dirt road left in town. CONTINUING on Old Deans Mill Road in a "Northerly fashion" You will be passing underneath 95... 50 ft.or so is a pulloff on your right.(Dirt) - Park. Quickly, face the Chain Link Fence and count 8 gaurdrails back towards the 95 bridges. Straight in towards the water see a multi-trunked Swamp Maple near the water. In It's "Palm" under a rock is the "Olde Deans Mill" letterbox.

Box #5
PLEASE Listen and /or read well... Leaving #4
This VERY Winedy road has a few terrible corners!!! Drive SLOW & Pretend that a car may be Coming your way, You will know these 2 corners Coming at You in less than 100 Yds. NOW Come to a Stop Sign and go right. Pass Al Harvey Rd. and Take a LEFT onto Wheeler Rd.(Sign - "Pequot Golf Club"), continue few hundred yards down this road and a Stone Wall will be in View - turn right into this very distinct pulloff. If you pulled right in, then hop over the break in the wall on the Drivers side and head right toward an erraticwith 3 trees growing out of it. The biggest on your left, is Hickory. (I believe),.. Find The "Poor Farm"
Letterbox in the CREVIS, chest high in front of the smallest tree.
On the 6th hole of this golf course, on right hand side of the valley is a Forgotten Cemetery, among
Cedars. The stones are merely markers, there isn't even any legible writing to read.
You'll just have to trust us on this one,.. I can't take you there,.. But this is the image you just stamped.
Go right back the way you came in, Take Left, Past the Road Church again & TO 95.
We Hope you enjoyed this loop, and want you to get back to us with how you did or if boxes need
any Maintenance. We especially Thank You for being "STEALTHY"!!!
