Number of boxes: 1
Trail difficulty: moderate; there is no trail and you have to do boulder hopping to cross stream and some scrambling up rocky slopes.
Stamp hand-carved

This box is in the Coronado National Forest northeast of Tucson. Driving towards Tucson from the east on I-10, take exit 275 and go north on Houghton Rd. Turn right on Catalina Highway. Going towards Tucson from the north on I-10, take exit 256 and drive east on Grant Rd. Turn left on Tanque Verde Rd. Turn left on Catalina Highway. After passing mile post 7, turn left on Prison Camp Road into the Gordon Hirabayashi Recreation Site. Park in the parking area on the right almost immediately after making the turn into the site.

Walk back to the entrance and cross the Catalina Highway. Go to the dirt road on the east side of the highway and go around the gate. Continue on the dirt road all the way to the back of the flat graded area. Climb over the rock and dirt berm and go down the other side. Make your way over to the left side of the stream. Continue up the canyon keeping on the left side of the stream whenever possible. After a while you will see an old rusty pipe along the left side of the stream. An old rocky trail starts just to the left of the pipe and goes up the slope. Go up this trail to an old small rectangular concrete reservoir (or tank). This was built to provide water to the old Federal Prison Camp constructed beginning in 1937. From the northwest corner of the reservoir, go at about 358 degrees (from mag. north) for about 47 steps to a moderately tall dead tree. From the north side of the dead tree, go at about 36 degrees for about 12 steps to some low fractured boulders. The box is wedged in the wide crack between the boulders and covered with a fairly flat rock.

This box was placed for the 5th Annual Tucson Letterboxers Gathering.
