350 parts per million (ppm) is the recently defined safety line for carbon dioxide (CO2) in our atmosphere. In 2009 we are now at 387ppm CO2. 350 represents a global movement of people raising awareness and redirecting human actions toward lowering the CO2 level. Visit 350.org to find out more.

The 350 Massachusetts letterbox celebrates Massachusetts' growing promotion of bicycle use throughout the state - the big vision is a bike path from Northampton to Boston. While that is taking years to develop, in Northampton people can commute by bike via a series of bike paths to Amherst and Easthampton. And what better place to comtemplate our transportation habits than right where the bike path and interstate highway traffic overlap.

The best way to get this box of course is by bike, but it is also a "drive-by". Park at the Elwell State Recreation Area parking lot on Damon Road. Cross Damon Road and walk under I-91, passing a couple of stone benches. Continue to the next stone bench, then count 13 paces (1 pace = 1 step) further where there is a spray painted arrow at the edge of the trail. Face the fence and notice a larger tree among the bushes along the fence. The box is at the base of that tree on closest to the fence, under a few sticks. Please be discreet as you find and re-hide the box. Thanks!

Bring your own stamp pad.
