Directions to the Cross Florida Greenway, Santos trailhead: Off 1-75 take exit 67 (Don Garlits Museum), head east on 484 and take 475 north then turn east onto 80th. The Santos trailhead parking lot and facilities are on the right just before you get to 441.

NOTES:
Stamps in this series are all representative of the native, endangered Florida plants found on the Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway.
Completing this series could take several hours, come prepared for a long days hike as the clues span several miles. Fall/winter is the best time to come, when the vegetation is not so overgrown. Long, sturdy pants and good shoes are a must. Be aware of poison oak. Snacks advisable.
Begin at the Santos Trailhead. Take the landbridge trail to the right after signing in at the registry. Follow orange trail markers.

CLUES:

Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end; then stop. -- Lewis Carroll

Three hatters are we,
As mad as can be,
On our way to a party
For crumpets and tea.

There's so much to share
So do please take care.
When you're solving these riddles,
Try not to despair.

Box 1: ALICE'S CROQUET MATCH

Near intersecting trails and an orange trail post; be on the lookout for a wicket shaped tree about twelve steps prior to the post. It’s on your left coming and the right on your way back. In case you do not know, a wicket is the arch shaped hoop used in croquet. After spotting this tree…

Croquet's a game of structured skill,
With idle time and strength of will.
All you need are wickets tall,
A steady shot, and oh! A ball…

1st Strike- Run the hoop starting from the trail. You barely make it through the wicket.
2nd Strike- Ball in hand. You are carried from your current position to the eastern leg of the wicket. Put your back to the hoop.
3rd Strike- Ignore tices! Now it is a straight shot through momma or baby wickets.
4th Strike- Time to go for the peg out. It’s a tough angle to play. In front of you is a fallen log. Cross it and find the peg at its end. Look down at the base to claim your prize. Well played!
***Too many ace hitters must have visited this lawn; the peg has fallen over after some recent storms***

Box 2: DODO ENCOUNTERS THE CHESHIRE CAT
***THIS BOX IS OUT OF SERVICE as of 8/3/2009***

Walk a ways, and don’t look back,
More than a mile along this track.
Cross a road, or maybe two,
Before you start to think of clues.

Don’t hit your head on that low hanging limb! The tree is marked, you won’t mistake it.
Haven’t you always wondered where the Cheshire Cat goes when he disappears?
Remember, if you don’t answer right, you’re sure to be left. Granddaddy oak can’t hold his arms up anymore – take a peek at his heart and maybe the cat won’t be the only one grinning.

Box 3: THE CATERPILLAR’S TEA PARTY

Set out again, just once more
Can you guess at what’s in store?
So do your best to not be late
For Caterpillar’s party date.

You are cordially invited to tea with Caterpillar. The gate to the party is on the left. Take a few steps through the opening and look for the Red Queen to the right. Head straight towards her, then look down the rabbit hole. Stop and have a cup!

Happy Hunting!
The Mad Hatters.
