Bald Eagle Letterbox
Bald Eagles are once again nesting in Rhode Island. The birds are symbols of pride, freedom and beauty, and they've been missing from Rhode Island for longer than anyone can remember.
While bald eagles do pass through the state, treating it like a pit stop on the way to other places, it's been a century at least, perhaps two, since any eagles saw fit to build a nest here.
The Scituate Reservoir is now home to a family of three. Mom, Dad and baby. Come visit Rhode Island's very own Nesting Bald Eagles.
From the intersection of Route 6 and 116 in North Scituate Village, head south on 116. Park on the eastern side of the road approximately .9 of a mile down 116. This is the prime viewing spot. Look out onto the island to find the eagles. Bring binoculars or perhaps a telescope.
When you have had your eyeful, head south again for 1.6 miles. Park again on the east side. Climb over the wall to enter the cemetery. Find “Captain Harris”. Precede 14 paces east. In the upper part of the wall you will find our eagle nest.
Thanks for stopping by, we hope you were able to see the birds. It is somewhat of a challenge. We were able to see the head of one of the adults and the nest.
