LIFE IS A 3 RING CIRCUS!
#1 – THE BIG TOP
(#2,3,4 & 5 are in Brooklyn)

THIS BOX IS MISSING AS OF OCT. 15, 2013. I WILL REPLACE IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND WILL UPDATE THE SITE THEN.

This is the 1st in a series of “Circus” Letterboxes, and we are dedicating this series to my Dad (the children’s great-grandfather.) He was a big circus fan and belonged to the “Circus Model Builders Association.” Some people play with trains…. He built a model circus complete with “big top,” many circus wagons, the flat cars to carry them, and all the animals and people, in the scale of ¼ inch to the foot.
This first box is VERY easy to find, and is ok even for little kids because it is not a long walk. We hope you enjoy finding this and that you will continue to look for the others in the series as we plant them!

DIRECTIONS
One way to get to the starting point is from I-395. Take exit 91 West, which puts you on Route 6 West near the southern end of Main Street , Danielson. At the intersection of Route 6 and Route 12 you will take Route 12 South toward Plainfield, and will go approximately 1 mile (passing Big Y on your left, then a Garden Center on your right.)

Take the next Left after the garden center onto Shepard Hill Rd. There is a sign for Quinebaug Pond, as well as a boat launch symbol. Immediately bear left again, staying on Shepard Hill Rd. Go 2 tenths of a mile and take your first right, (before the bridge over the railroad tracks.) After you turn, there will be a sign welcoming you to “Wauregan Reservoir.”

Park in the parking lot then walk down to the boat ramp to the right of the entrance. Go past the launch area, between the boulders and follow the path around the opposite side of the lake, bearing left to follow the lake. Half way up the hill bear left on a narrower path to stay closer to the shoreline. In about 100 feet the path goes between 2 trees, (a single one on the left and a double trunk on the right.) The “Big Top” box is hidden behind the double tree in the hollow base. There is a little prize for the first person that finds this box. Please watch out for other hikers, as this box is SO close to the trail. We did not continue on in the same direction, but re-traced our steps back to the car so we don’t know if you can go all the way around the lake, although there are trails on the side where you parked, and we have gone swimming there in the summer.
Good luck!
