This is our first letterbox! To get to Tunnel Springs take I25 to exit 242, which is the Bernalillo/Placitas exit. Head East towards Placitas about 5 miles to Tunnel Springs Road. It is the 2nd road on the right after the fire dept. Take this dirt road about 1.5 miles until it ends in a parking lot at a trailhead. (Caution: The road is extremely rutted and I would not recomment going up without a truck or SUV.) You will see a restroom at the end of the lot and a brown metal garbage container. To the right of this container there is a tiny unmarked path. Go down the hill about 45 paces towards a lone scrub bush. On the left is a duck marking another indistinct path. Walk past the grouping of 5 cholla cactuses on the right. At the last cholla count about fifty paces until you see the boulder on the left. The box is hidden behind this boulder under a pile of rocks. Happy Hunting and make sure to enjoy the breathtaking views! If you have time, definitely hike the main trail at the opposite end of the lot.
