Walk north from Morro Rock on the long, lovely beach in Morro Bay. You can head to the beach at several locations if you want a shorter walk. There is a parking lot at the end of Highway 41 (Atascadero Road). A shorter route is to turn west off Highway1 at the stoplight at San Jacinto St and turn left on Coral Street. Park at the end of Azure Street or at the Cloisters Park. There is a lovely boardwalk that heads to the beach from the park. There is access at points all along Beachcomber Drive or you can start walking from Morro Strand Sate Park. The closest way to this letterbox is to go to the end of Toro Street (west off Highway 1 at the stoplight at Yerba Buena Street, left onto Toro Street). There is a staircase that goes down to the beach.
From Morro Rock walk about 2 miles to a rocky point. Look east and face the staircase. There is a large rock that is pointed at the bottom and has a white streak running through it from 11 o’clock to 5 o’clock. The rock is under the third section of double rail fence. The letterbox is in a small cave under the point at the bottom of the rock. Please replace it so it is hidden.
This letterbox was left by members of the Morro Bay 4-H club as part of their hiking project. We had a good time researching letterboxing, assembling the letterbox and finding a place to hide our letterbox. We hope you will enjoy this walk on the beach in search of our letterbox.
