When I found out that Hale County did not have a letterbox, I decided that during a visit with family members in Hale Center Texas, I would plant the very first one. I lived in Hale County for many years in my childhood, and that area of Texas holds many fond memories!!
From I-35 South take exit 37 (Cleveland St – FM 1914) Turn right onto 1914 West. Drive thru town to the Bell Park Cacti Garden (corner of 1914 and 1424). From the picnic area walk back towards the cacti garden, after the wooden posts, count the rocks on your left that are lining the outside of the garden. At the 6th rock, turn left and enter the garden. Count 14 paces and you will find a large pile of rocks in front of you. Under the large flat rock you will find the first placed letterbox in Hale County!!
